Lurker that Phelps should have struck a defiant tone and lent his support to efforts to decriminalize marijuana possession, especially medical marijuana use.

I do agree A. It's a matter of personal freedom... marijuana is not addictive and smoking pot is simply an alternative to other kinds of stimulants such as nicotine and alcohol. The prohibition of marijuana reeks of the same kind of hypocritical, heavy-handed governmental thuggery that brought Prohibition to the US in the 1920's. Hopefully President Obama, an admitted former pot smoker who says he supports medical marijuana, will "go all the way" and bring an end to the criminalization of marijuana possession.

Instead of apologizing, Phelps should have struck a defiant tone and lent his support to efforts to decriminalize marijuana possession, especially medical marijuana.
